As luck would have it, I contacted the office and one of the guys answered. Now is where you need to sit down. The first thing that they tried was a cheese log. That produced mediocre results. The best results came from ---a bar of Dial soap. You can't make this stuff up. Wonder how they came up with that. That wasn't even in my top ten choices.

Fished Lake Fork with a friend using a trotline. We used Zote soap and caught some large channel cat. It smells great and you can wash your hands after handling the fish.
My father in law and I used to bait trot lines with ivory soap and also old stale cheese.....the channel cats liked it. Flat head catfish like live bait tho.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
