How deep are you fishing? Are you adding the weight to drop down faster or to hold the bait while vertical jigging in current?
10/4. Thank you all. You have been a big help as always.
Blessings on you and your families.

If I have no choice, the split shot would be tight to my loop knot by my jig ,not above it for sure ,negative up bite crappie will school ya if there is a weight above a jig and or a minnow ...

I'm fishing 20ft and less. I fish alone most of the time and you and youtube are my instructors.
Just been trying to copy what I've read and seen.

IMO you’re going WAY too heavy. If I’m fishing 10’ or less I use 1-1/32 ounce jig. If I’m fishing deeper than that I either use 2-1/32 ounce jigs or 1-1/6 ounce. You want your jig to have a fall slow rate. The slower the better. I’d ditch the split shot. This is if I’m casting and reeling or vertical jigging. If you’re longlining or spider rigging this doesn’t apply.
That advice all goes out the window if you’re fishing in heavy current but if you’re crappie fishing you shouldn’t be in heavy current anyway
