    Default Pellet Smoker

Does meat smoked using a pellet smoker have as good flavor as using a charcoal smoker with wood chips?

My son-in-law has one and I think there is something missing in flavor. The only thing that seems nice is that you can start it smoking and forget it for several hours.

Sounds like to me you have it figured out. I now use an older eletric pellet smoker. It does pretty good for taste and it’s a lot easier than the charcoal smoker but if you have the time and want the best do it the old fashion way. IMO.

    Default Pellet Smoker

I’ve had a pellet smoker for years and I’ll say that it does impart a milder smoke flavor to me than other methods. But yes it sure is a lot easier.

I've also used a pellet grill for a few years, it's convenient with a good taste but there's no replacement for cooking with charcoal or wood in my opinion.

Several folks don't know that you can get different pellets. Different woods and custom blends to impart different flavors. You may want to try experimenting with different woods to get the flavor you like. In the days of using wood and lump, I used primarily oak lump with a couple of fist sized chunks of seasoned Hickory to impart a mild hickory flavor into the meet. You can also get a smoke tube for a pellet grill to get a "heavier" smoke flavor.

Most pellet grills burn the fuel (pellets) too efficiently to get the same "smoke" flavor as a stick burner. As the gentleman above stated, there are many different types/brands of pellets that will give meats a different taste.

I prefer a heavy steel offset barrel smoker. Will last a lifetime and no warranty needed, efficient and holds in the heat. I use charcoal and hickory chunks.Name: 20200606_144831.jpg
