Default Have You Ever Mounted a Crappie?

I caught my first slab (and probably 5th crappie ever) yesterday around 2 lbs (15” measured) I thought it was “trophy” until I saw some online approaching 5 lbs! I am new to this haha.

Got me thinking...Have you ever mounted a crappie? If so let’s see it! If not, biggest you’ve ever caught? Mine would be the one in my profile pic. Feel free to give info about time of year and how you caught him. Mine was caught in 40s water temp on bottom in 10 ft of water with LFT baby shad. Livescoped him!

My biggest was this 17” caught in October last year on chartreuse/white hand tied jig I made. I released it. Checked into replica mount but to expensive and not exactly like it.

My biggest this year was 2.94 lbs and caught a bunch of them well over 2 . I would like to catch a white and a black both over 3 and have mounted togather . Never mounted a Crappie .

Nothing wrong with mounting a crappie if it's trophy size in your eye's or your geographical location. No different from deer, ducks, turkeys etc. Each part of the country grows certain animals or fish differently. I've never mounted a crappie and caught a few over 3 lbs. Nothing to brag on in north Mississippi. I've on the other hand mounted 8, 9 or 10+ point deer that would otherwise be average or below for other state's. A trophy is only weighed by the eye's of the individual who catches or harvest an animal or fish. Me personally if I ever catch a mountable crappie it will not be a replica. My thoughts on that matter is it's in last days anyway, and folks from MS been filleting trophy crappie for the longest. Bet more records have ended up in the grease as opposed to the walls in my opinion!

here is a replica of my avatar fish i let swim on , she was estimated at between 3.8 and 4.4 on her length and girth measurements
the replica was a crappie form that was 4.2 and when i got it to the house my wife who took the avatar photo said when i opened the crate
it's smaller than the one you let go .
i think i paid around 300 for it as i remember ,he had a hard time replicating its actual colors . he hadnt done many large crappie in the past , Its a beautiful mount but not near as light in coloration and even though he repainted it , i finally said thats good enough
    KABOOM is the word
I have 2 Largemouths and 2 Stripers my bud who is a taxidermist or used to be back when did with me and for me long ago as well , and maybe 15 shoulder mount deer
Probably wont do any more mounts other than bleached deer skulls , my garage and bedroom and dining room dont have enough room for any more mounts .
heck my kid even has one mount in her room she said she wanted ....

I have a 3.2# just over 17” black crappie from the end of last February in the freezer waiting to be mounted if/when I can find a taxidermist that can promise a mount that looks like the fish. I have seen many mounts that the colors are way off and some that don’t even look like a crappie. I’m the same as Snubby on a replica!
