    Default backlash after flipping lever

In the past I've only crappie fished 1-2 times a year. I'm big into catfishing so I catfish a lot.

I want to get into crappie fishing more. I plan to go at least once a week. Some weeks I will be going twice.

I had all 3 of my reels re-lined at scheels (they used the spool machine to do it) I had them put on Suffix Siege 6lb clear mono on all 3 reels.

I went out this morning for two hours and I probably fought my reels more than I fished.

Every time I flip the lever over and get ready to cast line just unspools from the reels. So needless to say its a disaster after I cast. I tried all 3 reels and all 3 did it.
After several hours of fighting all of them and no fish I called it a day.

Here's a picture of two of the reels. One has a decent amount of room left on the reel. The other two look similar. As you can see there's not much room left for line. I was thinking maybe there's too much line? But on the first one they left a good amount of room and it still spools off. I'm throwing jigs one two rods and I'm throwing a slip bobber/jig on the third one.

I'd appreciate any tips or advice!

I would say too much line on the 2. Put a 1/2 ounce weight on them and cast or walk out the string and reel it in. Do this a few times and the string will reel on tighter. This should help. That is the same string I use and it is fine after it is used a little. "D"

Tie the end to something solid, run out about 100 or so feet and apply steady pressure to stretch out your line, and reel back up applying a little pressure as you reel. Works for me.

A tip with mono is to soak the line overnight in water before spooling. This makes it nice and limp, and it handles like a dream. Best to remove any sticky labels first, so the glue doesn't get on the line. Mono line absorbs a bit of water, and the store line is probably dried out and stiff. The line has taken a set from the bigger diameter spool in the store, and that is why it springs off. You might just take off the spool from your reel and soak it in plain water overnight.

The second pic looks about like the right amount of line, the first looks under-filled to me.

The reel in the lower photo has too much line.

A lot of guys have a rigorous preparation routine for spooling line, I'm a minimalist, just reel it in right off the spool any old way. I change mono pretty frequently, I don't like fussing with coils, and it doesn't take much sun exposure to weaken it.

I said in my earlier post I thought there is too much string on one. Somewhere between the 2 would be just right IMO. Stretching it using a weight or tying it off will help. Never heard about the soaking. Can't think of any reason it should hurt it to soak.

scheels did not turn their spool the right way to match your reel. Counterclockwise to clockwise or visa versa.

Not enough line on reel number 1 too much on #2. After you spool your line and before you tie anything on it, while slowly idling put you line in the water and let 50 yds or so off. Pull it slowly for a few minutes and reel it back on spool. Stretches the line and helps take a lot of the memory out
