That 93 sv UHD with 54 transducer is supposed to be good unit. Helix 7 is great unit. Big difference is going to be in mapping. Garmin maps leave a lot to be desired in my opinion compared to the lakemaster map card you can get for the bird. If the lakes your fishing are on the card. Look up lakemaster and you can check and see if your waters are covered. If not then I’d say the Garmin would be your Best Buy. I have just seen a couple of blurbs on 56 transducer and not sure it works with 93 or not but would be an extra cost of couple of hundred for it. From what I have seen the UHD with 54 has pretty good performance.

i did find a garmin 93sv uhd with the gt54uhd for 599.00 locally, dicks sporting goods has it in stock model number is 010 02342 01

The gt54 is an HD transducer and works very well. The new gt56 has more power which means the side imaging range is farther. It also has a higher down imaging frequency (1200 vs 800 khz) for clearer returns. Is it $450 better?? Not sure.

I just added a second 9 inch to my boat and will be lake testing soon. I would not hesitate to buy that unit from dicks.

Garmin comes with lakevu maps. Humminbird will cost you and additional $125 for detailed maps. Name: 20201205_174403.jpg

I can’t see me paying that much to upgrade the transducer. I’d rather put that money elsewhere.

Garmin Striker 4 CHIRP Sonar Tutorial (What you NEED to know) - YouTube

Will this help you? He has other videos also. If this doesn't help, type in "garmin striker 4" or something similar.
On my last boat, had two Garmin 73SV plus units, no complaints with them.

    Hello Cray
one of the lakes we fish alot is not on the list, we live in NEPA, Francis Slocum Park so in short can it be added without making any extra purchase of mapping ect. if mapping is going to be sort of a headache, before i make the purchase would the Helix 7 be better for mapping. and it will be $100 more than the 93sv

One thing that helped me decide is the lakes I fish a lot aren't on maps either. The garmin all you need is a regular memory card and you can make your own map of the lake. The humminbird you have to have the zeroline card is my understanding to map the lake. So straight out of the box and best bang for your buck I feel like is the garmin.

You could easily make your own map of that lake on the garmin based on the lake size I see on Google. Doubt any major map card provider will have detailed maps for it. Just as super Dave mentioned.

Chet, when you go there, take the time, and go to the park office. See if they have a map for the lake. Also sometimes bait stores will sell maps of the lake. It would be worth trying.

well i went to Dick's sporting goods locally. their price was higher than Cabela's Cabela's was advertising the Garmin 93 SV combo for 599.00 showed them the ad on my cell phone, they matched the price 599.00 then i had a 10 dollar off coupon, then i applied for a Dick's credit card and got 10% off. so it was 60 bucks of the 599 price and a 10 dollar coupon so i got it for $550.00 then i did not know when you apply for the credit card, you some sore of a rewards card, and it was 70 dollars, so when i get the rewards card i can use it towards my next Shimao SLX XT reel, so the way i figure 70 dollars more off, sort of got it for 480 bucks, it was like Christmas today. i love a GOOD deal...curious if i can power it up and experiment with it.

    chet
ps now i got to learn how to use it and decide where i want to install the transducer, on the trolling motor or the transom
