    Default Dock shooting VS skipping.

How far can you guys get using dock shooting technique? I practiced a little bit of Dock shooting this morning and get only about 5-10’ under 12” floating dock. I was using 7’3 Mebaru rod Fast tip but have some nice bend with 1/32oz jig head. I can skip a lot further 15’ and up but I know the limit where everything have to align perfectly with a lot of room on the sides.
Another thing, do you guy superglue plastic to jig head? After a few hard hit on water the plastic came loose under jig head.

I can shoot a jig around 20ft with a 6ft rod. I use a spincast reel/rod to skip jigs because I can skip it more accurate and further with this set up. I tried shooting with a 7ft rod but it did not work out well for me. I'm much better with a 5.5 or 6ft rod.

You’ll need to experiment with different rods to find the action that works best for you. And think about accuracy more than distance when sling shotting jigs. The distance will come from practice.
Also, you’ll find that some jig bodies and jig head shapes are better for shooting than others.
    And yes, super glue helps
Tightlines and welcome to the dock shooters club.

Light line, wide or long spool reel, fast to very fast action tip are more important to me, than the rod length. I've shot docks with 5' UL's to 8' FnF rods and done OK with them. I just settled on my ESP PowerLite 6'6" rod as the most effective.
Most docks I've shot have had less than 1ft of clearance between the water & bottom edge of the dock, and I've shot 1/16oz jig/plastics a good 20' under them (at times).

Like has been said ... practice is key !!

I've also found that solid plastics in the "tiny shad" shape (like a Panfish Assassin) do seem to skip under the dock farther than hollow tubes (or even solid body tubes).

One other thing I found was that Vertical Casting the outer posts of stationary docks can also net you a few extra fish.

Pappy infor very good, i use a 6ft sharpshooter but there are several rods made just for dock shooting out there. The reel spool size is very improtant but how much line you keep on the reel helps with distance. All lines are not the same, I use 4 and 6 lb but try different lines to find what you like. Practice practice will help, lots of good video on you tude on how to hold line and reel. I fish from a stick steer and sit down while fishing so a little different from shooting off a deck. I found a long power handle will not work will sitting. Gets stuck in my belly shorten the handle on my ozark. Practice and you will get better but there are always those shots that don,t hit the mark enjoy.

light line and a fairly heavy jig on a really stiff rod will sling a jig under a dock until it comes out the other side .
i dont shoot docks myself ,but some guys i know do it really well . most of them use a pretty heavy jig and a stiff rod .

Is this look good for some dock shooting or another word pontoon shooting. It is deep though about 20’ deep if not more.

That’s a whole lotta shooting.....lol. Be nice to eliminate some by using electronics.

    YES ... if it's legal !!

From a boat that would be ideal ... especially the pontoons !! Don't matter much about the depth, except maybe during the spawn, because they will hunker under those pontoons when it's hot/sunny.

With a 6’ medium action rod, 4 lb test, a 1/32 jig and a BGBS, I can shoot one 30-35 feet if I have a foot of clearance. I can’t skip one worth a flip
