Winter pfds

What are you guys using in the winter for pfds? I have a 3x jacket that I can put over my regular life jacket right now. I thought maybe you guys had something really cool I didn't know about .

If you are using an inflatable one do not, repeat DO NOT wear it under your jacket. If it is triggered under a zipped up coat the pressure of it being caught between the coat and you chest will compress your chest and you will suffocate.

Thanks, just my regular one under the jacket. With all the clothes needed for all winter fishing, I thought maybe someone had a good idea. Im going to get a float suit for fishing but need something while running that I can get off quick or isn't to cumbersome to wear all day

I don't think there coastguard approved but Ice Armor,FriBil and others make bibs and jackets that are warm and will float you like a cork if you go in,there's quite a few videos on YouTube.

I wear a BPS auto inflatable. Easy on and off. I can adjust it out for when I'm wearing allot of warm clothes.

Mandatory cold weather life jacket wear
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission passed a new regulation at its September 27, 2011, meeting on life jacket wear during cold weather months. This regulation takes effect November 1, 2012, and states that:

a person shall wear a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD or life jacket) during the cold weather months from November 1st through April 30th while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or any canoe or kayak .

Can U.S. Coast Guard approved inflatable life jackets be worn to meet this requirement?

Life jackets must be worn in accordance with the U.S. Coast Guard approval label. If the inflatable life jacket is worn within its U.S. Coast Guard approval then the answer would be yes, it does meet the requirement. It is worth pointing out that some inflatable life jackets have a statement on the U.S. Coast Guard label that reads “DO NOT USE BELOW FREEZING”. The warning refers to the air temperature. Inflatable life jackets get their buoyancy from the pressure of the carbon dioxide gas (CO2) inside the life jacket’s bladder. As the temperature decreases, so does the CO2 pressure. Less CO2 pressure inside the life jacket’s bladder means less buoyancy. So if you are going to be out on a boat when the air temperature is below freezing (32 degrees F), then you should wear an inherently buoyant foam-filled life jacket that is U.S. Coast Guard approved.

A wear a stryker climate with float. But I'm wondering why you couldn't wear a auto inflatable over your jacket. I really like mine.
