Default When do you cast, slip and vertical , long line

I found myself slip bobbering/cork and vertical jigging exclusively with a occasional long line. I fish open water no dock shooting. I have never tried casting and retrieving. It it just a preference or is there a time and place?

Cast and retrieve 100% of the time for 45 years and counting.

    Agree.
If possible covering more water with light lures has always seemed to up the chances of find fish - loners or in schools. Occasionally vertical jigging near the bases of weeds in 6' or more have produced. What is absolutely necessary is knowing the depth fish and keeping mid depth with your lure. Lake structure area types can be key in locating fish either some of most of the year and can change year to year but most definitely season to season.

There are cast & retrieve favorites most of us have but in my opinion finesse action lures get the most strikes no matter the retrieve speed (which is rarely steady).
