When you start watchn how crappie react and how long they look at a jig on LiveScope, they cood be chking all aspects of the jig head and bait
Do the fish look that close at them? I know crappie have extreamly good eyesight but I don't know how much that tiny part in the front means

in gin clear water i imagine there are times if really makes a big difference .
most of the time it does not ....but some of the time it matters big .
sometimes it because it has contrast and other times when its the same color as the body it enhances the profile .
its a huge puzzle and it will takes years for you to assemble
I was fishing the other day with my son. We were catching some dinks and I had been catching some really nice fish on the same piles the days before. I was using Livescope and we were watching those bigger fish come up and look at our bait for some time and then go back into the pile. We had jigs on with some white heads. I then got hung up and broke off. I put on a pink jig head this time and same plastic. We dropped it back down and the fish came out of the pile. And immediately attacked the bait. It continued to be this way for most of the day. I ended up fishing some hand tie jigs as well with pink heads on them and was having the same reaction. The sun did come up and get over head and that may have had some part in it. But no doubt on this day and particular situation, the jig color did matter in my opinion. Maybe if I had some kind of pink jig on and same color white head I may have had the same reaction and it was the pink color. I don’t know.
pink heads often work really well
my opinion on it is it has the color of a sick baitfish
sick and dying fish often get pink around the head and gill area

When I dock fish, in cold weather, jig head colors can make a significant difference. Spring, summer and fall not so much. Last winter I hit a couple days fishing where red headed jigs outperformed all other colors. Even when I switched body colors. And yes, the water has very good clarity. I can see 4-5 feet down

YES, jig head color matters.
When spider rigging, I start out with multiple colors and some bare hooks. Some will be tipped with artificial bait of differing colors, some with minnows, and some with both. Some days they will only hit the bare hook tipped with a live minnow. Other days they go after black jig heads, other days pink jig heads, and other colors on other days. All depends on many factors. I take off what isn't working and put on more of what is working. I will leave a few odd balls out just in case they change their minds and stop chasing one thing and start chasing something else.
