In my experience if the crappie are biting really good it doesn’t make a lot of difference, but I have found that in slow bites it can make a difference. I’ve experienced it enough that when I’m long lining I put on three different color jig heads on my six rods to see if one makes a difference and to me it definitely does sometimes.

    it's da troof. LOL

Here's a prime example of color making NO difference. Me and Slabprowler slipped off for a few hours this afternoon. We fished different colored jigs and heads. On the last dock he was catching em and I wasn't. I tied on the same colored head, put on the same exact jig body he was using and he still caught em and I didn't. He said they were thumping the jig, but I never felt a thump after I put on the same thing he had on. Same count down. Same pink jig head. Same exact jig because I was using the ones he had. I guess I wasn't holding my mouth right. He did offer to let me reel one of his in. He caught 7 or 8 and I caught nada. I thought about making him walk back to the truck. LOL

I make my own colors and one is a medium blue pearl. Yesterday I had a great day and jighead color was the reason. I tried black first with Blue Ice BS, caught a few, hooked in the side of the mouth mostly. Switched to silver pearl jighead with same body but no improvement to hook position. Well I tried the blue pearl with the same body and as soon as my line got tight, THUMP! Hooks were down their throats, needed needle nose pliers for almost every fish. Also I was mostly catching better fish but after the change all sizes were coming up, I culled for 2 hours out of 3. That's fun! I change colors until the hook position is right. Well the pearl blue heads dialed it in for me. I've had numerous experiences where color really made the difference. Crappie fishing is an Art! Having the colors worked out lets you work on size, depth, sink rate, movement, or other presentation variations to position the hook down their throats.
