If you look in my jig hook box's I have VMC, Mustad, Eagle Claw - regular and Lil Nasties, and Matzuo's. I've caught fish on all of them and if they were on sale picked up a bunch. I like them all and fish with them that's what their for to fish. And with the prices shooting up everywhere I'm glad I have all those hooks!! but gotta go through all the ones I've already poured before I need to do more. If you got em fish em!!

The red may help just a little too? I like good size hooks and light heads for big crappie. Name: JPEG_20201106_124655_8201158109210384311.jpg

12 or 13 years ago I started pouring my own. Having tried and liked the sickles, I asked someone that poured a lot if I could get in on his next order and he said sure. I ordered 7000 in different sizes, both bronze and black, and still have some. No looking back for me, like them far and away better than round bend. Size 8 to 1/0 but mostly 2,4,6, and 8. Mine were Matzuo and when I order next I’ll go with mustads, not to talk down about the others but I’ve heard a lot of good about them

I make my own jigs. When I started making jigs I bought 1000 standard Mustad hooks and 1000 Eagle Claw lil nasty sickle hooks. I now only use the Mustad hooks because the eye isn't closed all the way on the Eagle Claw hooks and I have had several fish get off because the jig came off the loop knot. It didn't break it, it just came out of the loop. That's with 4# test.

Isn’t it crazy that a loop knot can do that?!
I have had it happen several times over the years.

Yes, I never quite understood how it happened because it always happened when I had the fish close to the boat. The loop would have been 180 degrees away from the opening on the eye. I've seen sickle hooks that the eye was closed all the way, but these Eagle Claws are not. I guess when I run out of Mustad's I'll try to close the eye on the EC's with pliers.
