    Default Wind from the east..

..fish bite the least. Wind from the west fish bite the best. Wind from the north few fishermen set forth. Wind from the south blows food in their mouths.

An old saying for sure, but my great-grandfather who taught me to fish many years ago swore by it. Later I came to understand the reasoning for this considering the atmospheric conditions generally associate with wind direction and the jet stream. But living all my life in the eastern US (KY and now NC) I wonder how this holds for folks in the west?

Does it apply to, say Texas or California?

I can't speak for all of Texas, but in my experience that saying is generally true. Also in my experience, nothing about crappie fishing is accurate 100 percent of the time except that they're caught in the water.

Livescope has shown me the wind mostly affects fishermen more than fish . They still got to eat.

The skunk flag does not discriminate. I can remember havin' bad days... even on the best of days... and awesome days when I didn't think it was fittin' to go.
Like several others have said: They're bitin' somethin'... somewhere... it's really just figurin' out the what and where that's the head scratcher from time to time.
