i am hearing some fisherman say to me about some reels, i asked them how they like this reel and that reel, some say this one is notorious for line twist, is this true or a myth. thinking of the president 20 series. any issues

Not a myth. Some reels are much better at reducing line twist more than others. I have not had any line twist issues in 8 years. All my reels have 2 bearings in the line roller. Of course when you start looking for reels with twin roller bearings the price goes up. A whole lot of reels don’t even have one line roller bearing...they just have a bushing.

That 20 has a small spool. Small spools have more coils. I had a few of them over the years. They do coil tremendously with mono. Micro braids may be better but I don’t fish braid for panfish.

if you use mono the smaller the spool the worse the twist and especially so on the cheaper mono lines . as far as one reel being worse than the next i am not sure positive . similar size reels/spools seem to have similar twist issues it seems to me .
age of the line has play in it as well ,older mono will for sure have serious twist if it is on the reel a while and not used .

that's is what i was thinking, that the smaller dia spools are not ideal when it comes to line twist and memory, so i know the larger spool diameters are better, But does anyone make a LIGHT weight reel with larger spool dia. and still a small body. trying to stay max weight around 7 oz

Yeah, their name is “Daiwa”, and the reel is the SS 700.

Pflueger has the Arbor reel. Don't think you can get it smaller then the 30 though. 8.5 oz.

I have 1/2 doz. #20 Presidents and haven't any issues with line twist. However, I use a 2# test braid as my main line. Haven't experienced any line issue in the last 10 - 12 years using this. I agree, the smaller the spool diameter the greater the risk of line twist WITH MONO becomes. Not so much with other lines though.

wonder if fluorocarbon would have less memory.

I got two and have been happy with them. If you get twist in a boat let out a bunch of line with nothing attached to it and drive your boat around for ten to 15 minutes usually takes the twist out.
