Signature series has 6 bearings and speed shooter only 4. Yes signature series is supposed to be better. I have a signature series and it’s ok but not my favorite. I like my Pfleuger President the best. Do some searches on this website, a lot has been said on them.

before you buy a reel , maybe go hold them in your hand and play with them a bit .
you can tell playing with a reel pretty quickly what is the best of the bunch .

I have the Speed Shooter and like them fine and as Super Dave said he is spot on about the ball bearing statement. I own the speed shooter combos and that is how I got my reels. They perform great and I haven’t had any issues at all.

I too own Pflueger Presidents and hands dow they are the best spinning reels I own. They cost about twice the cost of a speed shooter but are worth it. If you are trying to decide between the Signature and Speed Shooter reels I think the signature with six ball bearing is the better of the two. I bought the speed shooter combos (4 of them) because I got them for 49 dollars for the rod and reel.

    Hope this helps...

Don't go on bearing number alone. I have a baitcaster with 19 bearings. Should be tops if that mattered. 12 or so are in the handle. Back in the day I thought the red bushing 5000 was smoother than the 5000c.

I agree, I have some China reels that have 10 bearings and aren't as smooth as some 4 bearing reels. Quality of reels and bearings matter.
