Default Middle of the day slabs...

Took the kayak to an electric-only water reservoir near me. It is only open from 8AM-5PM, no rec boaters, just a few others fishing. This is a real pretty lake, usually very clear, about 400 acres. I got a late start and fished 11-4 today in bright sun. Water temp 70F. Took home a fine mess of 11"-14" slab crappie, released even more. Almost every fish I caught was over 10". This cool down has got them chewing..

I found them on the bottom 18-20 feet deep of a main lake point, anchored about 40 feet away, and cast to them. There was a ton of bait in the area, small threadfins I think. Super light bite - no thump - just weight on the line. My JDM UL rod and 2.3 lb polyester (zero stretch) line was like magic for feeling the pick-up. I was throwing Sowbug and Bison color trout magnets on a 1.5 g (1/19 oz) black jig head #6 hook, tipped with a crappie nibble. When one color would slow down, I'd go to the other, and vice-versa. Kept the fish guessing, and guessing wrong most of the time. Pretty good for the middle of the day.

Great report, odd they are still that deep. Shallowed up here with the lower water temps they have, but I am fishing an upland reservoir about 20 or more miles long.

    Varivas neo orange.

Now if I could just figure out where the shellcrackers are... this lake has huge ones in it.
