    Default fish finder question

i have been watching alot of youtube videos of fisherman fishing for crappies, they are using some kind of fishfinder where they are constantly watching the screen and setting the hook without even looking at the rod tip ect and catching crappies, what is this device most using. are they expensive ect, they seem to work

Probably livescope, 2500.00 to 4000.00 or so, depending on which fish finder you get.

Live scope would be correct. As with any other, the larger units are easier to pick out details and easier on bad/older eyes but they are more expensive.

Yep ... Livescope & a Garmin unit. Bought mine from Brian@BBGmarine (Member Sponsor) Livescope transducer & black box + Garmin 93sv (w/o tdx). Then bought a AGM 68AH battery to run them both, & a Cumberland Crappie Adjustable DF Mount (so I could keep my Hook 7 in place & mount the Garmin behind/above it). Probably got about $2500 in the system described. Oh yeah, I also purchased a 12' BGJP rod for use with the system. I generally use a double jig rig setup when LS fishing, as it's much easier to see & follow your jigs on the screen. Single jig with a split shot sinker above it also works. The fish I've caught using the Livescope have most often been caught on the bottom jig, though.

Yes, you can set the hook on fish without actually watching your rod tip .... but, I never watched the rod tip in the first place, just the line (when casting jigs, before getting Livescope). You will still (sometimes) feel the thump, but not always. Sometimes you see a fish come up to your bait and stay there, and when you lift your rod up you may feel some "weight" ... then you set the hook. BUT, a lot of times you'll see the fish come up to the bait & hang there for a few seconds, then turn around and go right back to where it came from (sometimes even on repeated casts). I've experienced that A LOT !! Sometimes a color change or bait size change or even jig weight change can get them to commit, but not always.

A funny story told to me in the case of using a jig/sinker rig : buddy of mine & his partner were fishing & his partner was getting bites but not hooking fish. My buddy watched it all on the Garmin screen & was laughing about it. His partner wanted to know what was so funny about his predicament .... then my buddy told him that the "bites" he was getting were bites ON HIS SINKER !!!

$3385 for LS transducer, 1222 graph and Ram mt. But it is amazing. And being able to watch whats happenin “and not happenin” is amazing to. It can make you want a 1/4 stick dynamite when you can see toos lded with Crappie but they wont give you time of day. As amazing as it is, I cant imagine the technology in 5 yrs
