    Default light weight spinning reel

i notice the lighter spinning reel have small diameter spools, i feel it lacks distance when casting, so i started looking for a light weight spinning reel with a larger dia spool, any suggestions

I don't have any recommendations on reels, but try to get one with a larger diameter shallow spool (so you don't have to put 3 miles of line on it). I like the Daiwa Regal LT reels, but they don't have a shallow spool. It's a shame, because that's the only thing I'd change about the reels.

I prefer the size #10 or 15 reels. They allow for a lot less line waste. I have not notice any problem with casting distance using 6lb mono.

I have an older model Shimano Sedona 500 with 4 lb mono and it casts very well, I loaded it with SOS 2 lb mono and it's even better. Been having issues with Shimano 1000 Sienna & Sedona's - no problems with 500 2500 & 4000 Nexave, Sedona, & Sienna.

I use 500 and 1000 Shimano reels and there is little difference in casting distance with 3 or 4# good line. The reels are very light.

best light weight reels with larger spools at different price points that i have used: Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Carbonlite 2.0 Spinning Reel ($ 50-80), Daiwa Tatula LT (~$160), and Shimano ci4 stradic (~$200). Recommend all 3 and almost all my setups use one of the 3, or the new regal (cheaper pricepoint but heavier).

If you haven’t checked out the pflueger presidents, I’d recommend it. I’ve been thoroughly impressed by them

How light and how small spool, Daiwa 1000 size is 40mm about the same as shimano while 2000 is 42mm. Daiwa regal LT 2000 is 6.7 oz while Tatula LT 2000 is 5.8oz. BPS Carbon lite 2.0 is actually Daiwa reel, 1500 ~ 2000. Really depends on your budget. 50 or 150, but if you can go higher, the new shimano Vanford 2000 and long stroke spool will help a lot and still under 6 oz.

a shallow spool with light line that is full will cast best
