For the speeds needed for crankbaits, I prefer the fullsize. For jigs, or very very slow cranks, the minis work fine.
I recently bought a few pair of the mini planer boards. The OR38 ones made by offshore tackle. The reason I bought them is because I've noticed on my livescope that the fish will scatter fast when I'm pulling or pushing crankbaits. And figured the boards will put the baits far from the boat and maybe help me catch some of those that are running from the boat.. but today I put two of them in a bucket full of water, and it seemed like it was all they could do to float on top of the water, so my question is, will the mini planer boards be ok to pull crankbaits, or should I go to the full size ones to pull crankbaits with?

The OR38s will work fine on Pico sized cranks in calm water. If you get a chop, the OR12s will be your best bet.
