    Default The Fall Bite

Yesterday I found what I have been noticing to be a trend in the last week or so . Baitfish on the move towards winter holding areas . Now as most of you know I don't rely on electronics most of the time and try to ketch crappie off the bank and or docks .
But to be sure I read the water pretty well from the surface and when I notice flickering shad and minor rushes on the surface I know what's going on below that action .
This coupled with enormous amounts of them and the location I found them clearly indicates to me the fall transition on that particular water body is starting .
The spot I visited is a very shallow old lake and has a major river system feeding it . The bait and the predators love to run up the river in the winter months and the location I visited yesterday is not far from the mouth of the river .
I got bit first drop until I left on my lunch break on EVERY size crappie you can imagine . From tiny ones to whales ,they were all there under that enormous bait ball . They were ONLY 3 to 4 foot under the water surface in about 8 or 9 feet of water .
So if you pay any attention what so ever to my advice and or posts and enjoy slinging crappie even near half as much as me ,,,,,,,,,
GET to slinging that lead my friends !
    KABOOM is near
p.s. even some sort of migratory tern like sea gull sort of bird kept me company as yet another sign of what is occurring as I type

I been told by several that the bite was great this past week but almost everything caught had to be returned to the water. They were either under 8 inches or in the 12-14 inch range. IF you were lucky you would catch one or two large ones, otherwise everything was a no measure throw back.

Not when you are meat fishing. And most of those who fish my slips are meat fishermen. Plus my housekeeper reminded me yesterday that it had been over a month since she had any crappie to eat.
