An old spark plug with a snap swivel connected to it and trot line string will work .
I am looking for a telescopic version for getting jigheads out of shallow brush... most of the time 10ft or less... I use such light line I would prefer it to be on a pole... has anyone made one or have a preference of store bought ones?

Okay, here's my "not what you asked about, but" contribution.
Use a bell sinker with a snap swivel attached as a lure knocker to slide down your line. It works really well.
I got the idea from Crappie Head TV on Youtube.

Here is one...but I am not sure how many jig heads you will save with it.

if fishing 10 feet and under use a 12' rod and reel straight down to the jig until you hear or feel a click and you can push the jig loose. over 10' i use a spark plug and tap it closed over the line with side cutter and slide down line it will knock 9 out of 10 loose .lf real brushy nothing works to good. use side cutters to open spark plug .works good for me. i save 9 out of 10 jigs. some times you may need to shake the plug and give it slack line. try to be directly above jig when shaking. you can get used spark plugs from a auto mechanic lf you ask them to save some for you. if using crankbaits make a plug knocker with a spring loaded snap with 10 oz/ of weigh and 2 or more solid link chains on it,saves all crankbaits. .only lose crankbaits to those darn muskies when they get the line in their mouth.
There are many "lure knockers on a pole" ... and they range from ~ $15 to $100 depending on brand &/or where you get them. You can also make one from a aluminum painter's pole and a metal spiral from a bank rod holder (and/or other DIY ideas).
I used this for decades to retrieve cranks (with & w/o the chains):
It's probably saved me 100 times the $$ I spent buying it, just from saved cranks (and that was mostly back when they were $2.50).
This is what my buddy uses. It comes in 10, 14, or 16 ft expanded lengths. For golf balls but works real well. The photo is Walmart but many places sell them.
my crankbait retriver has 1/8" rope plus heavier chains with 1/8" diameter brass hook on the chains because some places i flsh have a lot of heavy line hung on the rocks , it takes a very hard pull to break these lines to get your lure back. Have pulled up many cast nets with it that someone has lost, that had hundreds of lures, cranksbaits and jigs in them that were so heavy that you couldn't lift into boat ,had to drag to the bank to get out of the water. we fish dam spillways a lot . if you fish spillway with crankbaits you better have a lure retriever with chains and hooks or you will lose lots of lures. also have pulled up three anchors with ropes attached that had many lures hung in the ropes i guess they were caught in the rocks and they had to cut rope to get free.
