Just curious as to how much line you are putting on your reel? IMO a spinning reel needs to be filled, for maximum casting distance.

I would just go with the SOS or the XL. The SOS is thinner, so you should get a little more distance with it.

i am down to these 2 rods so far the lelands TCB or the 7ft Sam Heaton Super Sensitive, aiming for light lure for crappie like 1/32 oz, i don't see the specs on the SHSS rod, will it cast as good or better than the TCB.

There are fans of both rods on this site. I’d go with the TCB, but either should work fine.

The TCB rod with .120mm line will cast a 1/64 ounce TM jig head 45 feet....it weighs 2.4 ounces. I have looked for the weight on the SHSS rod before but they do not list it. Not at all familiar with the SHSS but the TCB rod is very sensitive.

I have spent lots of money on fancy name brand rods, their great but I catch just as many fish on my micro-lite rods I bought at Wal-mart usually in the shakespear brand or similar, most all of them will do the job.

and as stated my friend , full spool , 1/8 from even to the edge is the ticket . more will foul when you cast and less will reduce distance .
