Thanks, Skip, and to all other members who have replied, too. We were using 4-6" bluegill for bait. Glad I was able to be there with the waterproof camera to get some pictures of the fun as it happened. Great memories!

I was proud of Layne as he suggested releasing it before I even brought that up. I know he would like to hook into it again, but this time on a pole fishing from his kayak.

In that first pic, the buddy has the look on his face of "we're gonna need a bigger net!", like Sheriff Brody in "Jaws".
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.

Layne has hauled a few fish in the 20-35# range into the small aluminum boat we used to use to set lines, but this was just the second time out for his friend. On the first trip they lost a fish of about 20# right at the net, but that net wasn't going to help with this fish. I wish I would have had video going when they both had a hold of the line and the fish gave that first good tug that moved both kayaks about 3'...

Layne caught this one on rod & reel last summer at the same lake, but he was fishing off the dock as we didn't have the kayaks then. He really did a nice job with it as he landed it using 8# test line. I wasn't there that day, but our daughter was there helping our friends with a painting project, so she handled net duties. When they called me Layne was so excited he could hardly talk! Can't be the same fish, though, as that one last year came home to swim in the hot grease.
