Tim check out the video in this post. It shows a non slip loop knot. The thing I like about this knot is that the tag end that is cut short ends up pointing towards the bait which makes the front of the knot smooth and less likely to hang up some grass or other stuff in the water.

No Way! Way too much hardware down at the business end. Best solution I've found are "snap hooks" that fly fishermen employ to change flies quickly. Made of light weight spring steel, these have served me well over the last couple of decades. Netcraft carries them. I even use them to change out my crankbaits, in the larger sizes. Gives a better action to the jig too, in my opinion.

Yeah, but it makes you wonder how in the world a bluegill or crappie would ever hit a beetle spin.

Well, it also helps if you cut your tag end very close to the knot.

Get you some of these from Skipper Jigs, you won't need a loop knot.Name: Screenshot_20200723-184806~2.jpg

Ok, dumb newbie question here -- do they hit beetle spins or roadrunners?

Both, species like the Beetle spin and the Roadrunner, but it seems to be that most people use the Beetle spin for bluegill, and the Roadrunner for crappies.

I use both, BS being my favorite. Catches any fish.

I use 1/32 road runners with 1 inch "Slider " grubs , mainly black . No hardware except pulling cranks with swivels and spider rig with speed snaps .

for pan fish I use heavier line on the majority of the spool then use a swivel to attach 2 - 3 feet of light invisi line which i tie the hook directly onto.

for trolling and crank baits I usually use a snap swivel for the ease in changing lures.
