Sorry I didn’t answer some of your questions. I just went straight to the rod holders.

I use a slightly modified version of pappy’s set up.

Spyderlok rod holders
BnM bgjp 12’
Cheap $5 crappie reels (looks like fly reel)
3/16 - 3/4 weight. The wind or speed I fish dictates. Lure needs to stay vertical.
18”-24” leader 2# - 6# typically 4#
1/32 - 1/4 oz jig
Bobby garland baits
Humminbird helix for finding, marking but I’ll leave it on a split 2d/di view for fishing.

I try to keep my speed between .2 - .6 mph. I let the fish dictate.

Is your weight on the bottom or in front of your line?

I like to have mine at the top.

Mainline - weight- barrel swivel - leader - hook/bait

If fishing multiple hooks it really helps to have weight at the bottom as it reduces tangles. But I only like to use 1 per pole.
Less tangles with line and if I use net, the free hook always gets caught in the net. But that’s just how I do it.

Blackjeep - Can you post a couple of pics of the weights you use?

Appreciate all of the help here folks. Looking forward to pulling the trigger on some stuff to get set up to troll. Have been casting 1/32 oz mini-mite jigs to brush piles last two weekends and have caught a ton of fish. They're not long, but they are thick and the freezer is filling up!

One thing I did do for my crank pushing endeavors was to pre-make weight/leader rigs & store them for easy quick change on the fly :



What you're seeing is 2oz trolling weights tied to 5ft leader lines with a duo-lock snap on the end of the leader ... stuck into a halfway split open section of the large (3" diameter) Pool Noodle. I believe that section of Pool Noodle is about 6" long, so it could easily hold 6 of those rigs.
Since my long rod main lines end in a duo-lock snap, I can quickly change out the 1oz trolling weights/leaders I use for jigs for the 2oz weights I use for cranks ... and not have to "put together" a new weight/leader rig for the crank while actively fishing. And it also allows me to remove the weight/leader rigging & store it, break down my long rods & store them for the ride to/from the lake.

I sure will but it’ll be a little later this week. I’m out this week on a trout fishing mission and took all my rod racks and long poles off the boat.
Water temp a crisp 49 degrees that kinda feels like air conditioning while fishing.

Blackjeepjk appreciate the picture/guidance very much. Today I bought the rod holders, rods, level winds, and some trolling weights (bigger). I'm going to check out the tackle you recommended. It will likely take me a couple of weeks to get things all rigged up and start the trolling/execution, but guarantee I'll be reporting back on how things are working out. Goal is to find the bigger fish in the lake. I've figured out how to target/catch the smaller fish off of brush piles - Helix 10 with SI + gen 1 HB 360 unit is killer for finding brushpiles, marking fish, and lining up the presentations. Hopefully I'll have some good stories for you soon
