    Default White vs black

White and black crappie are suppose to prefer different types of habitat from the other such as water depth, water temp, and structure choice. On your main water, do you find a distinct separation or mostly mixed together? I find a slight separation but mostly mingled together.

On my lake there are distinct times they are totally separate.
However early fall they are all together feeding up!
Blacks on rock piles, whites on wood in general.

I mostly catch blacks on/around cover and mostly catch whites while targeting suspended fish and trolling.

When you say white vs black I read spy vs spy. lol

As for fish, there is a difference on my home lakes. Black are closer to shore and shallower. Whites are further out and deeper.

They’re different. Sometimes I caught a mix but usually it was one or the other.

In my part of the world it depends on what lake .
they tend to mingle well in some spots and they tend to stay with their own kind in others .
generally speaking the black crappie here tend to be shallower than the whites in lots of spots , but that isn't always the case .
i know a few spots where the black crappie like to hold deeper as general rule .
i will tell you when one of them wants to be difficult to find i will give it to the black crappie hands down in the DFW area .
