FWIW, long before the “jig pole” was created, people used fly rods and reels for jigging.
Do you use a fly reel for jigging? If so, share pluses? I have never fly fished, no experience. Seems like easy to pull off desired depth, and are fly reels gear ratio? What would be general cost to use for crappie

Don't know how it's gonna work but though about it yesterday and gonna try a line counter reel on a kokanne rod, very limber rod. I have this thing of not having any idea how far down my jig is. Well the line counter I think will fix that. I can see the fish on my finder just can't figure out how to tell how deep I'm getting. If it works I just might look for a low profile line counter. Hopefully smaller and not a handfull!
