He sells a wLure UPC733 with a custom paint job, even has pictures of his baits on the wLure website in the review section for the UPC733. They cost $0.80 each for the blank. He does put a nice coat of paint on them. I painted a few myself this weekend. With COVID-19 it's been hard to get them out of China, so I believe he's taken the rest of the summer off and not doing any more orders until this fall. It took a little over a month for me to get the 50 blanks I ordered.
They need to make those blanks and other things back here in the USA. My dad used the Bomber Crank Baits from the 1940s and 1950s when they were carved out of balsa wood and would float to the surface. Dad would sand the old paint off and paint them himself sometimes. I still have a lot of them as all his tackle boxes were full of baits of all kinds. And when we fished we both used crank baits most all the time.
Big 4 Custom Cranks (on Facebook) is another option
I think you're right. These were just recommended to me recently...I don't have any yet. When I inquired about them he did tell me they have (2) large ball rattles inside...similar to the UPC255.
Do you know anything about the UPC255? His prices are fair so I think I'm going to order a dozen or so.
The UPC255 is a good bait. I've got a few myself. It's a little more expensive blank at $1.20 each since it's a little bigger than the UPC733, $5 or $6 for a custom paint job is a very fair price considering the amount of time put into it.
And yes, you're right that it has two ball rattles.
