There are many fly patterns that imitate the fresh water leech. Trout eat them and I am sure other fish do. I bet shellcracker's love them. My 2 cents worth!

I’ve thumped several off my arm while wading in Grenada. Seem to be more prevalent on the Skuna side. I suspect crappie consider them a delicacy.

These are some simi seal leech jigs from years ago. They are 1/32oz x #8's. I have caught shellcrackers and a few crappie on them. The crappie were in cool water in January. Dragging them slowly on the bottom and the crackers really thumped them hard.

when i was a young one and spent unlimited hours as an amphibian in spots i probably shouldnt have been submerged for those lengths of time i got a few on me from time to time. the ones i got up north were larger and more numerous and much more difficult to dislodge than the ones like i saw in the mouth of that crappie here in the southern us .
i do know like stated above many people use them as bait , i think i remember them being favorites for walleye maybe ?
interesting stuff , the fisheries biologist told me they see more of them and hear about them more frequently on rainy years here in texas by the way .
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
Interesting!
I remember getting leeches (never knew that either spelling) when swimming wading up in Michigan.
