Right now I have been having to reduce the distance of casts with 6 lb line due to the fact that my Picos will get down 20 feet very easily. And for where I fish, that can present a problem. Tellico Lake has a recent addition to its' bottom. a Pico Chrome Clown that was absolutely tearing the fish up! There's an empty spot in the tackle box.....all because of 6 lb line and a little too long a cast. ;-)

if i was pulling cranks and i am not ,but i have trolled for fish once or twice . i would probably use at least 10 lb test .
lots of stress on long lengths of line and the possibility something other than a crappie that might show up .
not sure much past that point ,but i would bet money there is about 4 zillion videos from the professional crappie folks on this subject .
several of the big name tournaments are drag a bait deals from what i have read and seen .
i think i read its really popular on grenada in the summer maybe ?

We have been using 20 lb power pro, lets the baits run a little deeper with less line out. Really helps with losing baits. You want a soft action rod as the braid has no stretch and be sure to get the hi vis so you can see it. Buy it in bulk spools for less waste and it lasts for years.

Mono will work fine, but will break off more baits.

I pull cranks with 8lb mono and use a 2’ braid leader on them to keep cats and gar from cutting it! I been running slime line and really like it

I run 12 pound Trilene Big Game Solar Collector. I’ll pull loose 50% more baits than I would with 10. I buy 4700 YARD spools and go thru more than one per season.

I set up all my tackle with my clients in mind. Braid will cut you like a razor if one grabs the line to pull a snag loose. Most clients wouldn’t have a clue how quick that can happen. I just add a few feet more line to get my dive-chart depth with 12.

The Precision Trolling dive guide is based on 10 pound Trilene XT which is the same diameter as the 12 pound Berkeley Big Game.
