    Default Dark Sleeper

Was fishing for bass this morning with a 3/8 ounce Dark Sleeper on my 60s vintage Abu 5000C/Silaflex combo. I had already caught several and felt a thump like another. It reeled in pretty easy so I expected a small bass. Instead it was a crappie.

Anyone ever catch crappie on a Dark Sleeper?

No, but I have caught one about 1.5lbs, also a Black Crappie, on a 4" Gene Larew plastic craw ... Bass fishing a deep rock bank, just before dark. Put it back in the hopes that it would help produce many more just like it.

I almost never ever try to ketch anything but crappie and don't pitch anything large in the water more than once every 27 years .
but to be sure they eat all sorts of things and I know a few folks that have caught some really big crappie fishing for bass .

Nothing better than a surprise fish. I got the tubing today so will get them moving maybe tomorrow but probably early next week.

I haven’t seriously bass fished for years, but when I did I’d often get a northern, or walleye. Course they all eat about anything they can catch. That’s a pretty large lure look like. Wonder what the size limit is of bait crappie will try to eat.

I am more surprised I don’t catch more bass, at least smaller ones maybe, when crappie fishing. Although the other day I had a nice fat bullhead grab my jig when I just had it hanging over the side of the boat while I was messing with my tackle box.

    Wow! That's crazy.

I caught quite a few crappie back in January and February with a Z-man 4" Scented CurlyTailZ. These were longer than the Dark Sleeper but with a much slimmer profile.

The Dark Sleeper is 3" long.

We catch many bass here when fishing exclusively for crappie especially in the summer time. In fact I caught my PB bass of 6.97 pound on a 1/32 oz jig with a # 6 hook and an BG electric chicken baby shad.
