Great story. My Brenda is a grandma and she still fishes. We are blessed.

My Grandma didn't teach me to fish or help me catch my first fish. I owe that to my Dad. She did take me fishing a lot of times. We never went far or to a hard to reach spot, but we always had an adventure. We would fish off the bank at the local lake and catch a variety of species. If the fish were big enough they went on Grandma's Old Stringer that we would get out of her Old Yellow Tackle Box. If the fish were not biting she would let me swim (only up to your waist), throw rocks and all of the other stuff a boy likes to do. When we would get back to her house we would clean and eat fish. I loved spending time at Grandma's.

If my Grandma was still alive she would be over 100 - people pass and times change, but Grandma's Old Stringer is still getting the job done.

If it is too windy for me to use my boat or I think there will be too many boats out on the lake for it to be enjoyable I will fish from the bank. When I do and catch a few fish I always open up Grandma's Old Yellow Tackle Box and get out her Old Stringer. I never fail to take her tackle box with me and never shy away from getting out the Old Stringer to keep a mess of fish. I know she would like that. I sure miss her and think of her every time I use the Old Stringer.

Grandma gave the Old Yellow Tackle Box and all of its contents, including the Old Stringer, to me when she lost her mobility and could not go fishing any more. I have had possession of the Old Yellow Tackle Box and Old Stringer for over 30 years now, but to me and I hope for my children that it will always be Grandma's Old Stringer.

Great post. You are a lucky man to have had your grands to teach you and enjoy time with. Mine were gone before I came around. A very cool tribute to your grandmas teachings and the relationship that you both shared.
