Default Costa Polarized Sunglasses - Thoughts and reviews?

I am thinking of upgrading my cheap $4.99 polarized sunglasses. Looking at Costa's right now. Anybody have them? Thoughts on lense colors, and glass vs polycarbonate? Lenses maybe a couple pairs are in order, one for sunny and cloudy days. I run hi-viz green on my spider rig poles so be nice for whatever color to make that line pop even more.

I am sure I could spend my money on others things but got to keep the economy going with buying sunglasses.

I just bought a pair at bass pro yesterday and really like them... they were running 20% off to boot... probably could have found them cheaper online... haven’t had them on the water yet...

I have a great pair of Maui Jim's that I wouldn't trade for another pair out there. I don't like Costa at all. Costa has glass lense, which a lot of guys like. But they fog up in heat or cold. Every 10 minutes I had to take them off and wipe them down. I've read there's something you can put on them to keep from doing it, but wasn't worth the trouble for me.

Yeah looks like Costa website has 20-30% off right now depending on lense color. I might have to give Maui Jim a look to.

I was a die-hard Costa guy. I had had Natives before I switched to Costas. I was getting them through my vision insurance so the cost is not really clouding my review of them.

Here is what I found. They are very nice glasses that come with a nice case, a lens cloth and neat little sticker. After about two years of wearing them regularly (like everyday as I have some vision issues where I need to wear sun glasses almost all the time) the rubber pieces will start to tear up. If they have rubber temples bonded to the plastic frame the rubber will separate. The rubber nose pieces will come loose. I went through three pair doing that until my optometrist stopped carrying Costa.

On a lark and because of a 50% off facebook ad I purchased two pair of Shady Ray's. At the time you could also pay $18 and get a mystery pair of polarized glasses. There is really no difference in the plastic polarized lenses of the SR glasses compared to the 580p lenses of the Costas. So for the price I would go SR. I have both the green-blue mirror for fishing and the black just because. I like the green-blue the most. The mystery pair was a wayfarer type frame with black polarized lenses. A little narrow for my liking. I prefer a wrap style frame as I don't like being able to see around the lens with my peripheral vision. I like full coverage. If you can live with the limited frame styles I recommend SR at a significant savings and not loss of performance and visual clarity compared to the Costas.

Yeah, I had lasik alot of years ago and since then I wear sunglasses all the time if I am outside. I feel my eyes are just more sensitive after that.

I have the Costa glasses. Jose frames. Have the copper silver mirror lens with the polycarbonate lens. I like the glasses a lot, very clear. My daughter chose the plastic lens because she knows how ruff I am on glasses.

I have a pair of Costa sunglasses from 2008 with the 480G lenses that are amber with bluish/green reflective coating on them. The ones sold now aren't as robust as the ones I have from 2008 - I have 3 newer style pairs of Costa and they just don't compare to the older ones. There's no telling how many different sunglasses I've had over the past 30 years of fishing, but the older Costa sunglasses have been my favorite. I don't know who decided to change the product after 2008, or when exactly after 2008 the changes were made, but they were definitely not for the better. The rubberized coatings they've started adding are nice when new, but get yucky after a couple of years. The older frames didn't have all that rubberized coating except for solid rubber pads on the nose and at the end of the arms.

I highly recommend a website called Steep and Cheap for discount Costa sunglasses if you wish to try a pair. The ones I've have from 2008 were originally $200 and I got them off of Steep and Cheap for $80

I had Lasik in 2003, and you are right, it definitely changes your sensitivity. It wasn't until after the surgery that I started to realize the value in better quality lenses and how reducing eye fatigue is really important, especially when being on the lake fishing all day.
