    Default Fancy Boat

Tonight I went fishing with my brother. He is a very good bass fisherman and has a very nice older Champion 19 ft boat with many of the most popular amenities including a new spotlock trolling motor. We did very well again in some horrible conditions. Tried and succeeded with some fairly unconventional methods including a tiny 2" crawfish plastic. I caught 30,and He was right there too, also caught 5 green carp accidentally. I have learned much in the past few weeks, and fished in some very different conditions. A nice boat ride is some kind of fun , of course I chatted with a part time guide the other day who is slowly giving up guiding due to all the hidden costs on a nice boat ride . The math I came up with years ago was about $50 per trip on a VERY small "paid for "boat with a trailer and motor . There are so many hidden costs that people don't realize involved in boating its mind boggling . His math on his large vessel was WAY higher on a one trip cost and it was so much more that it was barely offsetting the fees he was charging to guide .
One thing for sure though , a boat ride will often put you right on top of the fish with lots less leg work , that much I know factually .
    Congrats and KABOOM

If cost of boat ownership was the deciding factor there would be a lot less boats on the water. Just the cost of gas, oil, state taxes (in NC it is every year), maintenance, etc.

The pleasure of catching fish and being able to spend time on the water is what makes it all worthwhile.

never said the cost was the deciding factor my friend , just calling attention to the costs to operate .
I love to hammer down on a nice boat as much as anyone and have been a boating fool for right at 60 years .
just being real for a moment or 3 about how expensive it is to run a water vessel .
it is never wasted money on recreational stuff if you enjoy it and want to do it ….but ….
break out another thousand don't you know ….

A lot of folks can buy a boat, but a lot can't afford a boat.

This is so true about the boating costs, and it must have been difficult with so many financed boats sitting for more than 60 days while the lake was closed! My cost per trip is down to about 10$! Now that is my kind of recreational activity.

If you have to ask about how much this and that costs to use it, it may not be for you. Not just fishing either. Look at the cost of deer hunting. So many little things add up to more than you ever thought it would, and they all help in your success. If you travel it seems to go up exponentially. I enjoy my boat and everything that comes with it. Mechanically, I’ve learned that done once, properly, it usually doesn’t have to be revisited. Then the price per trip begins to stabilize, sometimes almost free, at least no money out of pocket. I’ll own a boat until it isn’t safe for me to go alone. Til then, Katie bar the door, I’m going every chance I get. There will be a time that all I’ll have will be memories, and I want to make sure I have plenty to think back on. And I’ve even been known to hire someone, even though I have my own boat. Just smart money to shorten the learning curve.

Cost of the trip is already made when you get to the lake. To get on a descent lake I have to travel 11/2 hours. So when I go be staying awhile if anyone goes with me knows they are going to be there awhile. If not fishing I am scouting and I do love the scouting part. I am not the the type of person to go couple hours then go home. No not me try to get my money worth.

I am blessed to live 600yards from the county boat ramp, free launch, nice facility. I almost never fish over 5hours at a time. Makes it easy to go more times a week for me.
