Had an agreement with my wife that has lasted 40 years. We don’t count the cost of the deer lease or the cost of the boat and never count the cost of her shopping. Fair trade far as I am concerned.

Dang I didn’t realize deer and pork was that cheap down south!
I’m guessing 250 a pound up this way! LOL

If you don't or can't take a boat out at least 10 times a year, then it is definitely not worth the investment. I go 4-6 times a month and look forward to more when I retire in a couple of years. My small boat cost me around $400. Motor and what's on it cost $4000+!! Still, fishing is my only hobby for over 57 years! "My only fear is after I'm gone, my wife will sell all my fishing stuff for what I told her I paid for it!"

Been fishing since i turned 4yrs. Got my first shotgun at 8, my first pointer at 10. Dad helped me train him. I worked 45 yrs. , sometimes 2 jobs. (most of the time) Hunted and fished all over Texas. Had boats ,dog trailers, deer lease. I retired at 55yrs. old. I still do the fishing and will till i can't get in my boat. Then i will sell my gooseneck tripple slide trailer on Fork. My dad told me to always pay myself first and live within your means, to heck with the Jones. It works for me!!!

I enjoy my boat and everything that comes with it. Mechanically, I’ve learned that done once, properly, it usually doesn’t have to be revisited. Then the price per trip begins to stabilize, sometimes almost free, at least no money out of pocket. I’ll own a boat until it isn’t safe for me to go alone. Til then, Katie bar the door, I’m going every chance I get. There will be a time that all I’ll have will be memories, and I want to make sure I have plenty to think back on. And I’ve even been known to hire someone, even though I have my own boat. Just smart money to shorten the learning curve.
    Well said.....i agree completely
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

ok ok I rethought it 200 a lb maybe ? but it is way more fun than going to the grocery store for sure for meat .
on the boat , I went for a ride the other day and it is fancy and I really enjoyed it ….
the cost of entertainment is always going to be relative .
some folks will drop hundreds to pack like sardines in a can and watch musical performances ,heck I did back 45 years ago myself .
one thing for certain ,when it isn't entertaining the costs will be realized quicker than when its all about the grins
