Two parts one is pull on steering but second is angle you have to have your arm at for long period puts a strain on shoulder muscles.
You can adjust the pull out of your motor with the tab on the cavitation plate. Mine is a 50 and it runs dead straight with no correction. Guy I bought it from ran it several hundred yards WOT with no hand on steering controll. I don't recommend that but it was impressive.

I may go hydraulic on mine..
Anyone have idea on cost to add that to motor?
    One example Ray.

Thanks to all for the great response. Now I just have to decide whether to get a stick steer or a new hip!

Owned a SS for three seasons. Got it for the flat floor and once seated you did not have to get up unless to stretch a bit. Did not notice any unusual or hard steering issues. Sold it as I was tired of getting beat up with the quality of ride. Went with a flat floor Lund 16' deep v tiller. Now I sit in the back, [best ride location] and only have to get up to deploy the trolling motor. The ride is smooth and very dry. Safe boat for most any situation. You may want to look into a rig like this.

Thanks Alphahawk. I've heard that same comment from several locals. I think I'd better get that taken care of before I sell the Ranger. If I can get it done in the next few weeks and it goes well I should be ready for the late summer and early fall fishing!

Had both my hips replaced. Would do it again in a minute. Went from taking pain pills every day just to survive to where I seldom even think about it now. Lost some flexibility but that's it. My strongest advice is research surgeons and research them some more. I've been looking arty boats this year and am strongly considering a SS, so I've been following this thread. Sounds like a guy needs a good steering system and an aftermarket seat if you go very big on the engine.

    Prayer Request Warcraft SS

Guys I had a Duracraft SS and loved it but the ride was rough if there were waves.
I recently bought a Weldcraft SS and I swear it as smooth as glass. It has a semi v hull whereas the Duracraft was flat bottom.
    I have a 16' with a 50 Tohatsu. It's a great package for the money.
A base unit with 40 HP, cable foot control and basic DF runs about $14-$15K less some discounts.
    I got mine with 17 hours on it for $9500. It's a 2018 model.
Well worth looking at New and used. Plus the Tohatsu is one of the sweetest motors I've run.
    I'll post some pictures.
