Default SHAKESPEARE 15 ATS REELS And LINE

Just ordered 6 Shakespeare 15 ATS reels with line counter for pulling crank baits.
I was told to use PowerPro yellow braided 15 lbs line.
How much line does a reel hold? I can only find 300 yard spools.
    Any other options available?
    PowerPro line is high priced.

Default SHAKESPEARE 15 ATS REELS And LINE

I was under the impression most use 10 or 12 lb mono? I could be wrong though. I know you can get 4700 yard spools of that. I am new to line counters, so someone correct me if I am wrong

Fill it mostly with cheap mono, then top off a 120 ft of braid. I use 30/10.

They hold 290 yds. of 12 lb line and to be more accurate the spool needs to be full. A lot of the guys use a cheap line for a backer and then 200 ft.. of good line. I use 10 lb. high vis yellow mono on mine.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

    This ^^^^

One 300 yd spool of braid = 50 yds per reel

Yes sir, buy you a spool of 1500 yards power pro hi viz yellow in 40 / 10. Think I paid $120 or so 2 years ago. I spooled 12 ats 15's a jig pole spinning reel and a few low profile baitcasters and still have line left. I do calibrate my counters as well. I've never been a fan of mending line, don't trust my knot or attention span to keep from getting to said mend. SHAKESPEARE 15 ATS REELS And LINE figure after 2 years have to turn my power pro after color loss, but it's still hi viz to this day on original spooling. Except for jig pole it's turned white first 20 feet or so!Name: 20200504_200846.jpg

Like stated. Back with a 10-12lb cheap line. Then run 250-350 feet of good line on there. I use Berkley trilene XT 10lb. U can buy in bulk spools

    Thanks for the replies.
Looks like PowerPro has 10 and 15 lbs test. I don’t see where they offer a 12 lbs.
so which will work best 10 or 15?
    Thanks

I was always under the impression that for correct "calibration" the line counter reel should be filled with 10lb test mono "diameter" line ... whether it was actually mono or braid. That being said ... PowerPro 10lb test is 2lb "diameter" & 15lb test is 4lb "diameter".

My ATS & Okuma line counters have either 30lb braid or 20lb mono ... and I use 6lb test mono leaders. Since I don't let out more than 50ft of line to Push jigs or cranks, I personally don't think the "calibration" aspect & line diameter differences will amount to much, if anything.
