If I remember correctly it's a pike hook.

I think the primary use is ice fishing. It helps the bait hang horizontally.

THANKS Silverside and CrappiePappy! Their is a lake an hour West of Wichita that is stocked with Northern Pike - its spring fed in one area so it's cool enough for them to survive.

Pike hook is correct. Most plke fishermen use a bridal rig now ice fishing. Two hooks to keep the bait level.
