Default Bad Decisions can be deadly

We still don't know exactly how it happened, but I am guessing it was a number of poor decisions. Please be careful when launching or recovering your boat, especially if you are alone. This happened at one of the lakes I fish in SW Missouri. Be extra careful.

Still a tragic accident... but at least he was not a shooting victim of some low life's as first thought.
It is so true that very serious accidents happen frequently while doing routine things... when least expected.

Speculation here , but i'am amazed how many people don't use their emergency brake loading and unloading their boat. Have see people slam it into park and jump out to load or unload boat. Have you ever seen what holds your vehicle in park?

Agreed. I use my parking brake everytime, and have gotten to where I use a chock behind the rear tire as well the past few years.

Sad stuff for sure.I met a fellow recently who conveyed a similar incident involving his friend a few years ago.He said his friend was backing his boat at a boat ramp, apparently thinking he put his truck in park,he started to climb out.Realizing it was not in park ,he panicked,he did manage to climb back in,and that’s where they found him in 30’ of water.

Yup it happens. Just had a story in our local newspaper of incident like that while trying to unload his boat last Sunday April 19th. Sad stuff for sure!

Thanks for the idea of a wheel chock. Gonna put a small section of 4x4 in the bed of the truck when I fish single.

Harbor Freight sells some nice rubber wheel chocks for pretty cheap. After all, it is Harbor Freight.

I put on the parking brake AND cut the engine off loading or unloading when I'm by myself.
