It happens. I’m living next door to a drug dealer right now. When I moved in it took about two days to realize what was happening. I went to the sheriff about it and he said he couldn’t (wouldn’t) do anything about it because “the dude is giving me info I need.”

A couple of years ago a women in Hernando, Ms. stole my wife"s identity. We were able to find out her name and address because she was pretty dumb when it came to crime. She filed for taxes on my wife and it really screwed up our return . We had to file a complaint and get a special number to file our taxes from that point on. We went to The IRS and they didn't even know what to do with the check that we received bogusly when we tried to turn it in. They didn't want to prosecute the person and told us to go to our Ill States Attorney. We did and she said that since she lived in another state they didn't want to pursue the case event though we had her name and address. To this day there was nothing done. We get a special pin # to file every year now. Not a lot of fun.

What a crock of crap. Can't believe the IRS or the state wouldn't prosecute. What happened to the check you got?

A couple of points here. First, I assume you spoke to the actual sheriff. If not, you might want to call him/her and let him/her know their deputy told you this. Second, if the sheriff told you about a drug dealer who is working with law enforcement, he lacks ethics, integrity and is just plain stupid. If the neighbor is dealing drugs out of his home, I'd suggest you call your state drug enforcement agency. Standard practice around the country would forbid an actual informant from openly committing crimes while working for law enforcement. If the sheriff is allowing drug trafficking, he could be held liable for any bad consequences associated with the drug selling. Sounds like you need a new sheriff.

It was not long ago our "Sheriff" for tallahatchie county (just a couple counties over from Brokenneth) was arrested for trafficking so don't put it past them down here!

2 years ago I had a farmer that lived 80 miles from here had $100K in beans stolen from his grain bins in Tallahatchie Co. He couldn't get the sheriff to do anything about it, even when the farmer found where the beans were sold in Arkansas and had a real good idea who did it.The state wouldn't come in unless the county asked them to. The insurance company wouldn't investigate it because they said they lose that much in Memphis everyday. Nothing was done.

They most likely won't take it to a pawnshop but will try to trade it for quick cash or drugs. If you ask the right people in the area you may be able to find some answers. You can't take the approach of telling them you're going to call the cops, they won't help you. I had someone steal all of my fishing equipment a few years ago and that's how I got most of it back and found out who stole it in the first place.
