    Default Close faced crappie reel

I want to get a small lightweight reel, for Crappie and bluegill, for my wife to use. I would put 6lb fluro on it with an ultralight 2 piece 6ft rod. It's been years since I've used a closed face reel and I'm not really up on the technology. This would be used for casting. I know it's an open ended question. Looking to spend less than $100. Any suggestions? The last closed faced reel I used was a Garcia ABU 170. That's too big for what I want

For a newer reel, I'd get a Daiwa Goldcast or one of the Zebco Omegas.

A cheaper alternative would be a Johnson Century off Ebay. Don't get the "anniversary" version that came out in the 1990's. Look for one from the late 60's/70's.

As far as buying a new reel, I have some of the Pflueger Trions and Presidents in the 6 size. They are both good reels. Those old Johnson’s are really hard to beat.

Check out the new president under spins. I'm enjoying using mine.

The small Pfleuger President underspin is a great little reel.

Best spincast out there now is the New Zebco Bullet.
You can get them on sale from Ebay, or Frank's sells them cheaper than other places.
I have 4 of these for Crappie...all lined with braid!

I've bought a couple of Pfleuger President spin-cast reels for my family last year and they've worked out just great. Excellent drags and very durable. And quite a bit less expensive than the "Bullet"!

For the kids and wife and even myself at times we use the little tiny Zebco 33 micros with great results and some come in a package deal with a nice 2 pc. rod spooled up and ready to roll for under 30 bucks total , buy her 2 is my thought

my wife refuses to use spinning rods, keeps trying to turn it up and is stubborn beyond belief. so I bought her a cheap zebco 202 in purple color on sale for $12 and she is tickled with it. BTW she likes to only use worms but the one time I was too busy ketchn tons of lil dinks for the grandkids with our friends she had her lil zebco dangling in water with a jig on it holding two of our dogs and caught Biggest crappie in LSL last year. Landed it no problem, then a 5 lb catfish next day on line that came with it. she loves it so bought couple more for her and the kids. it casts just fine but she doesn't, just drops it down. IF your casting should replace line with whatever you prefer.

Thanks for the replies. I currently have 3 President spinning reels that I like a lot. I think I'll try the President spincast
