I know...It's a jigging rod

I've got a BnM Sam's Super Sensitive 10 foot jigging rod. I found myself bank fishing the other day. Crappie could be found in 2 ft of water. They were all males. So, rather than switching rods, I thought I would try a cast in an attempt to get to the females. I made a very gentle first cast and the jig sailed some 30+ feet out. It was effortless. And, I started catching female crappie. Quite fun fighting the fish with this light rod and that much line. I was easily reaching casting distances I would have had to put a lot of effort into my 6ft rod to reach.

Later this year, after the spring crappie spawn, I plan to go to one of the Southern Missouri trout parks. In addition to my fly rod, I will be taking my BnM. Throwing a fly, with a light fish indicator float, would be no problem

I frequently use my 12' BnM rod to cast with. One of the places I frequent is a bridge that's 9' above the water and cast along the bridge and super slowly wind it back in. Mostly small fish, but a real nice one occasionally. No matter the size, they are all fun, and the fresh air is a plus.

all kidding aside very people realize how far a long rod will cast . we do it quite often to reach and touch someone in these parts .
I have a bud that wont hit the bank with less than a 10 foot rod and I am not kidding and he really reaches out there casting with it .
many moons ago we developed the art of long rodding in the middle of the summer with floats to reach brush piles way out off the bank .
very productive to say the least and watching my bud land a 57 lb flathead on 4 pound test after over an hour of pulling was icing on the cake at one of those spots .

Definitely helps on the hook set. Longer rods are more forgiving on slack line.

In Europe, most people fish from the bank, and a 10’ rod would be considered short. Twelve to fourteen footers are the norm. As noted above, there are advantages in fishing long rods.

I am not sure I own a rod under 7' these days. I fish a small lake that is long and narrow with brush and trees on the bank. Very few places to fish from. I have taken to fish off one side but cast to the other along the trees. I have a 9' float rod that works great for this application. It lets me throw a medium rocket bobber a long way.

I love a medium action 8 and a medium size open faced spinning reel with 6 lb mono for bank pitching if it isn't to tight on the shore with cover .

Love my two SHSS 9 footers for casting as well. All you have to remember is to NOT try to force the cast. Let the rod load up and release the line when the ROD is loaded and starting to go forward. Then she'll cast incredibly far. Long rods are great!

I have two , 12 foot match rods that i use for shore fishing and long range jig fishing. I have also cut the butt end of a couple long rods down to 10 feet to get the action i wanted. I'am a little OCD to get rods to do what i want.
