We are under a Quarantine in our area..
After this Quarantine maybe can work with them..
Have been working with Highschool fishing team..They have nothing, I mean nothing, don't even know how to tye a bait on,but eager to learn..
I was blessed as a youth had two grandpas
That thought me how to cast..
We use spinning reels..
I am Right handed.Cast right handed ,reel left handed..
These young men I am trying to teach cast right handed ..put the reel handle on the right side to reel right handed..
Can't understand the logic in this technique..
A lot of times a fish,Crappie, Bass will hit just as the bait hits the water..If you cast Right handed, switch hands to reel you miss a lot of opportunities to catch a fish.
Try to explain with no a avail..
What say you?

Blessed to have as many friends as fingers on your hand is a blessing!!!

I reel that way, but I cast left handed. Most bass fishermen cast right handed and reel right handed.
As far as practice is concerned, when I was a kid, I use to tie a small washer or nut to my line and cast at buckets sitting around the yard.
Cast right handed, and reel with left hand. I'm left handed.
I'm uber-dominantly right handed :
I cast baitcast reels with right hand & reel with right hand ... but, my casting motion is to "cast" (transfer) the reel from my right hand into my left hand while the bait is still in the air. I learned doing it that way with a Ambassadeur 2500c reel and I'm not even sure there were any baitcast reels with the handles on the left back then, anyway I probably learned doing that from so many years of using spincast reels back in the 1950's
I cast spinning reels with my right hand & reel with my left hand ... and don't have any problem switching from baitcast to spinning & back again, probably because I've cast them in those ways for so long that I don't even think about it. Probably also know that if I tried casting with my left hand it would lead to a minor disaster.
My fishing buddy is a lefty, and I struggle just trying to play around with his spinning reels (handle on right) .... just seems "backwards" to me, for some reason.
I’m right handed and cast right handed and reel with left hand. I even use left handed baitcasters. My bass fishing father in law says that I am using the wrong hand. I don’t understand why he cast with his right hand and switches hands to reel with his right hand. I guess I have done it this way for so long that it feel natural. My father in law probably fees the same way.

It’s definitely odd to grab one of my spinning reels that someone fishing with me has switched handles to the right side! Im right handed but reel with my left hand it just seams to be the natural way to do it!
Hi Keith. I’m “bassackwards” to you-LOL I am also left handed, but in some things and for whatever reason can make the right hand work perfectly. Cast left (power hand) and reel right. Throw left bat right. Played golf right handed. With fishing and has already been pointed out, you can get in more casts using your off hand to reel. When they finally made spinning reels reversible I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread!
