Default Trying to make a big bass lake by Removing Crappies?

    Hey guys

Trying to help my buddy, who lives on a lake. Because it's a private lake, no one really take much fish out of the lake. Over the years, they have caught less and less fish over 5 lbs. 6 is pushing it and nothing over 8 anymore. After fishing his lake for 2 years now, I have found that they constantly restocking gizzard shad for food population for the bass to grow. While bass fishing, we always pull up crappies, and huge ones too! Over the winter, my buddy asked me what was he doing wrong?

I personally told him I don't know much about lake management, but if i were to guess, it's because his lake is over populated with crappies. It's no doubt that his lake is my favorite lake for crappie fishing! with that said, i went out this trip to help him take a few out... and likely will go again several more times this spring.

I haven't reach back out to my buddy, but i gave him some homework to do and going to have him ask the state some questions about relocating crappies, or perhaps is it legal to just take the crappies and dump it over the spillway. In the mean time, he told me to go over and take as many crappies as i like home.

Here's a video of me catching them and some bass while at it!

If you guys have any advice for my buddy, let me know and i'll pass it along! thanks in advance!

Up north where your at you won't see the huge Bass like farther south . Gizzard Shad normally grow too big for Crappie after awhile . May have too many Bass per acre

I manage 11 trophy lakes. The crappie absolutely have to go. And the general rule is to take out 25lbs of bass per acre, per year. Talapia stocking is great too. Obviously, hire a pro. It’s cheap and you can grow big fish quick

We have two lakes here in NM with stunted crappie. Neither lake has many bass and bass can't be stocked because of downstream regulations pertaining to bass free waters. I would think the bass are feeding on crappie. That is why the lake has big crappie.

Thanks for watching my video, the swimbait I used was stated in the video too but it's the Eurotackle B-Vibe, it's 2 inches long!

That's his main forage that his community stock, but for some reason, they don't get super big... likely the bass and pickerels in there gobbling up before they can, and the crappies too.
