    Default Dock Shooting Rod

Want to purchase a dock shooting rod but don't know what brand, length, action etc I should purchase to start with. Also what are some opinions about 2 piece dock shooting rods. I was looking at the ACC crappie stix rods and they seemed very nice, but are limited to very few 1 piece rods (only saw one 5 1/2 foot rod} Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Pop

Lots good dock shooting rods out their ! I started with the b&m ss 5’5” then on to a proangler 5’5” then I tried the 7’ Wally Marshall speed shooter and feel in love with it so much that that’s the only rod I use whether dock shooting or single pole n can feel the lightest taps on it! It has improved my catch rate tremendously!

Pop ... I've used 5' to 8' rods to shoot docks with and settled on a 6'6" ESP PowerLite rod (very fast action tip). In the 5'-8' spread, there were 1pc & 2pc rods ... and I never had an issue with the 2pc rods. I just like the fast action tip of the ESP, because it loads up quicker than a slower action tip rod and "shoots" the jig rather than "slings" it ... giving it more "speed" to skip farther.

Thanks for the opinions. What the replies made me realize is I already have rods I can try for dock shooting. I keep saying "I'm not buying any more rods" and here I go again looking to purchase another rod when I may already have a rod which will be good for dock shooting. I just read another posting that the St. Croix 7 foot panfish rod does a good job, and I have one. Going to try the St. Croix first. When the weather clears in the northeast I'll post how it works. Thanks again

I have a 7’ St Croix trout rod. Not sure what the difference in it and a panfish is. I wouldn’t like it for shooting docks. It isn’t stiff enough. Not sure what price point you’re looking for but for a $50 rod it would be hard to beat the one Slabprowler uses or a Denali dock rod. I have a 5’ Denali and if it was a 6’ rod I’d love it. I like it a lot it’s just too short for my tastes.

I have both a 6' and 7' pan fish St. Croix rod. The 6' is Ultra Light Power, Fast action, and the 7' is Light Power, Extra Fast Action. I am going to try the Ultra Light 6' for dock shooting. I think the 7' is too stiff. Pop

Different strokes for different folks, but I'd try the light over the UL. My dock shooting rods are ML. I don't do any good with an UL. Distance and accuracy both suffer when I try them.
