The Magnolia Crappie Club, the nation’s oldest running crappie club along with the Grenada Tourism Commission are hosting its 11th Grenada Lake Big Mama Open Crappie Tournament, Saturday, March 7, 2020. The entry fee is $110 per team. Teams can consist of 1, 2 or 3+ people; the 3rd person must be a school (under 18 included) age child.
Early registration and rules orientation will be Friday, March 6, 2020, from 5 pm – 6:30 pm at 333 Restaurant, Scenic Loop 333, Grenada, MS. Late registration will be Saturday at 5:00 AM – 5:30 AM at Collins Bait Shop, Hwy 8, Grenada MS.
Start fishing time is 6:30 AM till 2:00 PM. Weigh-in Line closes at 3:00 PM.
2020 is the 11th year for the Magnolia Crappie Club to include a BMO spring pre-spawn tournament. The fishing will be awesome; we’ve heard numerous reports of over 3# crappie caught at Grenada. The pre-spawn will be in full bloom; the fish are fat as can be; don’t dare miss the chance of a lifetime to catch one of those Grenada Sows. The weather should be awesome and we’re expecting 100+ teams for this tournament so please join us.
The payouts will be: 1st Place - $1,500, 2nd Place - $600, 3rd Place - $400.
BMO History
MCC began hosting the Big Mama Open Tournament on September 25th, 2010, with 63 teams from 6 different states. MCC members Eli Rowell and Perry Herring won the 1st event with a 2.79# slab.
In September of 2011, we held our 2nd BMO with 69 teams from 7 states. Dave and Darlene Roach of Horn Lake, MS, won with a 2.46# slab.
September of 2012 was the date for the 3rd BMO with 75 teams from 9 states. Chuck Matthiesen from Dewitt, IA won the 3rd event with a 2.90# slab.
March of 2013 was the date for the 1st BMO Spring with 41 teams due to severe weather. Ricky & Jimmy Smith took the top prize for BMO Spring I with a 3.19# Slab.
September of 2013 was the date for the 4th BMO with 55 teams from 6 states. David Thornton & Shelton Culpepper won the 4th event with a 2.78# slab.
Fast Forward to March 2019, Don, Adonis Terry, and Bernard Williams won the 10th BMO with 62 teams from 6 states with a 2.93# Grenada Slab.
