Wow! Did Garmin replace them? Was this verified by Garmin? That's really odd.

So just so I'm clear on this in my simple mind. You went through all this expensive gear that Garmin had to offer without any luck and your response was to buy one of the most expensive graphs that Garmin has to offer to counteract all the other defectives you tried? I need to get in touch with Garmin's marketing department for some tips, in my business if I tick my customers off just once they are usually in the wind. Never get a 2nd chance for the upsale, lol... very interesting Im baffled......

Like every one else, they never admitted to the problem but in the end they took the old equipment back and I paid the difference in the cost of the equipment. I never lost my temper and blithered on them and they never stopped trying to solve the problem. I know enough about electronic to trace the problem to a single repeatable action and shared the information with them. Garmin did not try to take advantage of me and I did not try to take advantage of Garmin. A lot can be accomplished by just being nice. I was very hesitant about sharing this information and in hind sight I think I made a mistake in doing so.

Actually im going through the same thing at this moment but with a different issue. My livescope has a triangular dead spot and anything that goes into that area disappears. It's 8 to 10 feet out 16 feet or shallower right on the bottom right where i need to fish with my 11 to 12 foot jig poles. They have been stellar so far and if i can't find anything this next try they want my entire system to evaluate in house. I have agreed to this and am thankful they have stepped up to the plate. I too have been very patient and cordial with them about my problem. We'll see what happens.

My experience is that Garmin will take care of it. Over 5 mounts I was probably on the phone with them for over 60 hours and by now I know their tech support staff on a first name basis. I traded up because I did not want to go down in screen size and the 8612 was the next option. Garmin did insist that I take my boat to a Garmin authorized installer so they could prove the results with them. The authorized installers had to video tape the issue being reproduced and send Garmin the videos before they offered the trade up in equipment. I can understand Garmin requiring that because anybody can say anything over the phone and there are a lot of dishonest people out there that will. I didn't mind the extra money in the trade up. To me it was the honest thing to do. I could have traded down in size but I was already used to the 12" screen. The 8612 having twice the resolution was also a big part of the decision. Many of my friends wanted me to go ballistic on Garmin but I believe i received better results being polite.

I couldn't agree more. I chose the echomap because i use only one unit between the bow and the helm utilizing two cradles. Snap in snap out. I didn't want to purchase another unit so i went this route and it works for my situation and fishing habits. Im going to pull everything out, lay it out on the open deck , use a dedicated battery, hook everything back up and start the process of elimination. If this doesn't work. I'll send the system back in and see what they can evaluate.

That is a fact about being nice for sure. And I'm glad you did share your experience with us. Garmin also has an advantage right now over other competitors on a certain technology. That will make customers a little more eager to work through technical problems. A customer could throw a fit and say I give up, I'm sending this equipment back for a full refund and will go buy a Lowrance Livesight. Not much of a threat to Garmin and the person on the other end of the phone would have to contain their laughter I'm sure. Oh well, not trying to hijack the thread. I feel fortunate all my equipment so far has performed flawlessly. Hope you get your issue sorted out pipeliner and wrangler good luck with the new 8612, once you get it dialed in that should be one heck of a unit!

The problem on the EchoMap 126 is between the quick connect mount and the 126 itself. I think it is the 126 side.
