Default New fish finder. I’m lost

    Hey guys,
I’ve finally come out of hibernation. Hope everyone had a good winter.

I’m looking to upgrade my rear fish finder. I’m wanting something with side view for the console of my boat. I’d also like to keep it in the under $500 range, so I know I’m probably going to be focusing my search on used units. I’ve been looking at the humminbird helix 5 & 7. I’m also wanting gps so I can hook it up with my ipilot and set paths for when I’m longlining. I’m just a little leery of dropping this much money on a unit when I know so little about them. Is there anything specific I need to be looking for when purchasing other than what I have already stated I’m wanting?
I see a lot of them say they come with Ethernet cords and ram mounts, but I don’t know what those are for... I’m just grossly uninformed on the subject and was hoping somebody could point me in the right direction before I take the plunge. Feel free to reply to this thread or pm me. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
    Jman

#1 at least 7 in helix 5 is to small to read.
#2 has to have N in the numbers to be networkable
#3 Ram mount is a arm that attaches to a ball mount mounted to boat, top ball mount has a plate to mount finder bracket to. This makes it adjustable in different directions.
    Hope this helps some.

Here is a example of ram mount

Check this out, this would fit the bill nicely and in your price range.

Here is another question, does it connect with the ipilot through Bluetooth or do I have to run a cable to connect them that way?

I agree with both above post but suggest a Gen3N if your are going with Humminbird.
Still find some Helix 7 Gen3N out there but they aren’t making the 7 anymore. They went to 8” now and of course cost more.
