SK, this has been a very good series. This type of info is what really helps. Question, after you mark the spots by side scan do you go back over with down scan to check fish are there or is this more a locate structure for checking later technique?

Since this was a bank that was protected from the wind when I finished scanning from the console I was on my troll motor and did a more precise scan and fished most of the structure....
To answer your question I use 2D to look for fish..... Sometimes just using SI will show you the fish.....

SK, What speed are going when you scouting around like that. I'm seeing what looks like around 2.0 to 2.2

I usually run 3 to 4mph but this lake has standing timber and I didn't know where it was so I was really tipping 1 to 2mph to not end up stuck on a tree top.....
My unit shows a lot better with the screen speed at 4 and the boat at 3 to 4mph....

So I guess it depends on the unit. I was asking as I am looking to get a side/DI unit for my boat, but I have an older motor that is two stroke and requires a 24/1 mix ratio, and from past experiences idling or running at low rpm for an extended period and I will be changing plugs on the water...Thanks for the answer though. Love the videos and all the helpful info. Oh and yes it's a 1961 fastwin 18hp...love my old motor.

None of the brush in my local res has many crappie on it right now, they are all scattered, suspended, or under docks/boathouses in deep water. I spent the time it takes to enjoy a couple cigars and a thermos of coffee idling a creek with SI on and marking brush and trees. When they go back, I'll have a number of good spots to check. I did stop & drop one jig down - and nailed a good bass. Those Daiwa jigs with #8 hook are no joke, no way he was getting off with it buried in the roof of his mouth, dang ol' green beast. I needed my pliers to get it out.

3 to 4mph is recommended on all SI units I know of but you can play with the screen speed to increase your mph and get a decent reading..... I've been able to get a decent about 15mph but I was just seeing how fast I could scan.....
I do run WOT some between long stretches of idling..... None of those 2strokes like to idle long periods..... Thanks!
