I have the 14 ft regulars and a set of the 14t and like them both. Detecting strikes is not a problem with the t's using 1/2 oz weight. If I want to power troll I can also. I have about 30 sc rods and have broken one for in all the years I have owned them. No better rod on the market for the money and excellent customer service.

I guess I continue to be on the fence between 14 and 16' rods. I have a 20' boat, so storing them is not a huge problem. My current rods are Jenko Cypress Creek 12's and BnM 12' West Point rods. For the money, I have really liked the Jenko Cypress rods, but they lack in visual on bites in some cases. Maybe 14's give me the greatest versatility.
I use to have the 14ft southerns, now i have 14ft bgjp's.Theres no doubt southerns are tough, ed duke is a great guy and poles are tough. But i know for a fact 14ft bgjp's,16ft capps and colemans will have a better tip action in windy rough conditions than the 14ft southerns.I loved my southerns until i fished with a friend with 16ft capps and colemans and saw the difference. If your gonna spiderrig tip action means alot in my opinion.

I also have several southern crappie rods. I have both the regular model and the T models. I troll cranks and planar boards with the T series rods and several different lengths. The SCR models I spider rig with and they are all 14’ length and they are all tough as nails.

If you wanna try out each shoot me a pm and will go fishin I live in nc on lake tillery, if your a tournament guy I’d opt for the 16’ regulars if just a fun fisherman I’d stick with the regular 14’s, but like I said if you wanna see for yourself you are more than welcome to come try’em out, I tightline, longline and pull cranks with the regular series, no better tougher rod and there is no more sensitive of a tip on a long rod and that’s a fact

I love my SCRs. Great rods very tough. Ed Dukes is a fine man and stands behind his product. You will not find better customer service!

Sold my Southerns and got the BGJP. They are right when they talk about the whipping in the wind.

Long lining crankbaits with the 12T’s and 14T’s, I have landed 30 & 35lb flatheads and figured the rod would break as had them doubled over, super strong rods.

I am slowly upgrading my rods to all SCRs. Had a tip break on a 14 last year and Ed was able to sell me a replacement vs havign to buy a whole new rod.

All I hear are great things about Ed and his rods. Wish I had a set, but bought my set off of this site used. Got BGJPs in the 14 foot size. I have tried single 16 and even 18 foot poles and they are just too much trouble for the little bit of extra reach. My wife would never get in a crappie with a 16 footer. She hates the 14 enough. For the average weekend fisherman, it is hard to beat 14 footers. I would rather fish comfortably all day with my 14s and miss a few shallow fish that got spooked. I spider, pull jigs, pull cranks all with my BGJPs and love them, but if any of you want to donate a few southern rods, be glad to take them. lol.
